Of all the things that come to mind when I think about what foreigners say about Minnesota—land of the lakes, the cold, the concept of "Minnesota nice"—the one that seems the most elusive to me is the legendary Minnesotan accent. I've lived in Minnesota all my life, and the only times I've ever heard the accent were… Well, on bad TV shows.

We Minnesotans often joke about our invisible accent, really accentuating the length of vowels to make fun of those who assume too much. It sure is fun.
